A Storm Is Coming

The Creative Assembly, developers of the hugely popular real time strategy Total War series, are increasing the heat on their next venture, Stormrise.

Published by Sega, the futuristic title is due to be released in March on PC, as well as the XBOX 360 and PS3.

Particular development focus has been on the console editions, with The Creative Assembly hoping to have the same strategy success on consoles as they have on PC.

Go With The New?

There have been a series of well known releases over the past month, with the likes of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, Street Fighter IV and Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2 making a splash in the sales charts.

Over the next month it will be interesting to see the sales and promotion for a brand new series, or IP, competing against the well known ones.

BattleForge and HAWX are two of the strongest heading our way in March, competing against Empire: Total War and the latest Codename: Panzers title, Codename: Panzers - Cold War.

Street Fighter IV Wins

Capcom has announced that Street Fighter IV has sold over 2 million copies worldwide in its first week of release.

The sales of XBOX 360 and PS3 copies of the game have made it one of the biggest sellers of the year so far.

The PC edition is released in June, and the latest Street Fighter movie is released at the end of February.

Codemasters Gamers Day 2009

It’s been a busy time for Codemasters this week, as the publisher has released a batch of promotional material for the core of its 2009 line up.

More details on the MMO title Jumpgate Evolution have confirmed a June launch, along with Overlord II, the follow up to the warped 2007 title.

Shooter fans will be excited by the look of Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising, with petrol heads getting their kicks from the open-world inspired FUEL.

Be prepared for more to come as Codemasters turns up the heat on these and more in 2009.

Formula Codemasters

Last year Codemasters won the rights to create the next edition of Formula 1 computer games.

With the ToCA and Colin McRae racing series already on the company’s CV, Codemasters also acquired the staff at the now closed Sega Racing Studio.

With this in mind, the new Formula 1 team rules and specifications for the 2009 season have been announced recently, aiming to add more excitement to the racing.

Codemasters will hopefully be aiming to implement these new changes into the game, with high-speed results!

EndWar Experience

Having already been released on XBOX 360 and PS3, EndWar will mark its PC release next month complete with amBX enabled features.

Ubisoft and amBX have announced the innovative, real-world sensory features will be part of the world war strategy title, creating a greater gaming experience for amBX users.

Midway Moves On

It’s been confirmed that American publisher Midway has filed for bankruptcy.

The publisher’s troubles had been widely reported and this announcement is meant to enable a complete restructure.

The studios and offices outside the US will not be affected though.

Reports have now surfaced that The Wheelman, one of Midway’s upcoming titles, has been picked up by Ubisoft.

Wolfenstein Release

Activision Blizzard has announced it expects to release the next edition in the popular first person shooter series, Wolfenstein, this summer.

An end of year date had been expected, but now it’s due to hit the PC, XBOX 360 and PS3 in the June to August period.

The game’s being developed by Raven Software and is one of the anticipated releases of 2009.

FIFA 09 Becomes Ultimate

On March 19th, one of the top selling titles of the year, FIFA 09, is getting an additional downloadable game mode, named Ultimate Team.

Electronic Arts has announced XBOX 360 and PS3 players will be challenged to collect or create the most talented players in the world, develop them into a dream team and then compete online against challengers, aiming to be crowned the ultimate team.

This news comes on the same day EA also announced that FIFA 09 is the most popular EA Sports game played online over the past 4 months. Over 141 million games have been played on the XBOX 360 and PS3, a daily average of 1.25 million games.

Konami Saves Saw

Japanese publisher Konami has reportedly won the rights to publish Saw, the computer game based on the blockbusting horror movie series.

The game will be released around October on PC, XBOX 360 and PS3, at the same time as the release of the sixth movie.

It was questioned whether Saw would be released at all, after original publishers Brash Entertainment went out of business.

Konami has been involved with previous horror-action titles with the Silent Hill series.

amBX PS3 Agreement

amBX has announced it has concluded a Tools and Middleware License agreement for the PS3 with Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.

The agreement will allow amBX to develop its ambient experiences technology into the worldwide computer games market.

amBX currently delivers its sensory experience to the PC market through the use of light, colour, rumble and air flow, and has also recently released its SDK for development studios to use.

E3 Exhibitor List Grows

The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has announced an updated exhibitor list for this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo – E3.

Need For Speed In 2009

Electronic Arts has announced a new wave of Need for Speed titles due for release in 2009.

The big-selling racing franchise is continuing with a selection of three new titles that will be released across a range of platforms.

Need for Speed: SHIFT will be the next core title (after 2008’s Undercover) and will aim to give an authentic and immersive driving experience for PC, XBOX 360 and PS3 players.

Need for Speed: NITRO will be available for Nintendo Wii and DS owners, with its aim to challenge racing fans of all levels.

Need for Speed: World Online will be a Play 4 Free action racing experience, available only on PC and set to be released in Asia during the summer, before heading to the western world at the end of the year.
