Ubisoft Games

Ubisoft has confirmed some additional titles for 2009-2010.

Titles that have been quiet recently are making their way out in the dated period, including Anno 1404 and Splinter Cell: Conviction.

Assassin’s Creed 2 and R.U.S.E. are scheduled for the same period, plus a new Ghost Recon and Raymond Raving Rabbids title.

Sample Battlestations Pacific

Eidos has released the Battlestations Pacific Demo.

A mission from the US campaign, plus two multiplayer modes are available to sample.

The sequel to the 2007 World War Two strategy title is fully released in mid-May on PC and XBOX 360.

Next Witcher Gone?

Rumours are surfacing that The Witcher: Rise of The White Wolf has been cancelled by Atari and CD Projekt.

No official word has come from publisher or developer, but the CD Projekt PR and Community Manager as commented on The Witcher Forum.

The Witcher: Rise of The White Wolf was heading for XBOX 360 and PS3 this year.

The game has already had big success with PC editions of The Witcher and The Witcher: Enhanced Edition.

Bethesda Gets WET

Bethesda has confirmed that it is to publish WET, the third person shooter title from development studio A2M.

The game was set for a 2008 release, but was a victim of the Activision/Vivendi merger.

It will now be making a splash on the PS3 and XBOX 360 in the latter stages of this year.

The Next Driver

Ubisoft has trademarked a new Driver title.

Driver: The Recruit is the name that has been registered and indicates that a new edition in the long-running series is heading for a release.

The original Driver was released in 1999.

Battlefield 1943 Date

Electronic Arts has announced it will be releasing Battlefield 1943 this June on the PS3 and XBOX 360.

The PC edition will launch in September.

Battlefield 1943 will see players choose between the US Marines or the Imperial Japanese Navy and fight online with up to 24 players.

What Happens In Vegas…

Bethesda has announced that it is releasing a new Fallout title in 2010, called Fallout: New Vegas.

It is not a follow-up to Fallout 3, instead it is a standalone title set in the Fallout universe and will be released for the PC, XBOX 360 and PS3.

Obsidian, the studio behind Neverwinter Nights 2 and the upcoming Alpha Protocol will be developing the game, leaving publishing duties solely to Bethesda.

Ascaron Future

Ascaron, the development studio behind a number of titles including Sacred and Sacred 2: Fallen Angel has announced it has gone into administration.

The future of the company is now being finalised and a detailed announcement will be made at a later date.

Ascaron has stated that it is currently working on a Sacred 2 expansion pack for the PC, as well as a third edition in the series, Sacred 3.

Street Fighter IV Champ Mode

One of the biggest selling titles of the year, Street Fighter IV is to get a new gameplay mode on April 24.

Capcom has said that the Championship Mode will be released for the XBOX 360 and PS3, and will be completely free.

It will offer 5 different grades of tournament, giving players the chance to compete at various skill levels and to watch replays of the best fights.

Game And Movie Time

One of the big movie and game tie-ins of the year is heating up for its May 1st release.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine is launching across the platforms and is aiming to stand out for good reasons in the movie and game tie-in bracket.

Developed by Raven Software, the action title enables players to take control of Wolverine and learn about his past.

This year has seen the release of WANTED: Weapons of Fate, based on the 2008 movie, plus Terminator Salvation (both developed by Grin) is next on the horizon.

More Stalker

News has surfaced that GSC Game World has begun work on the next two Stalker titles.

An add-on to the original Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl will be released this year and is named Stalker: Call of Pripyat.

Stalker 2 (full title TBC) is in the works for a 2010 release, with gameplay and storyline details still to be fully revealed.

TimeGate Sues Paramount

TimeGate, the development studio behind Section 8, has started legal proceedings against Paramount Digital Entertainment and Paramount Pictures.

TimeGate is alleging that Paramount is trying to steal the name Section 8 and has also said that both companies were working together on “potential business ventures” and the game itself, until Paramount decided to cancel operations.

Paramount Digital Entertainment then announced it had partnered with a foreign company for its latest project, Section 8, an interactive web series.

Assassin’s Creed 2 – Teaser Footage

Ubisoft has released the first footage of Assassin’s Creed 2.

There has been a lot of talk about where and when the game will be set, and the teaser hints at an Italian-style theme.

More will be revealed over the next few months in the build up to the 2010 release.

End For Stargate Worlds?

Fans waiting on the release of the online title Stargate Worlds may be left disappointed.

Brad Wright, an executive producer on the Stargate TV series has cast doubt on whether the game will be released at all, saying he doesn’t know if it will happen.

Stargate Worlds was being developed by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and published by Firesky, with both companies created specifically to undertake the project.

Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has had financial problems though and has been seeking additional funding to continue operations.

Next Bourne

Starbreeze, the development team behind The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, has now started work on the next Bourne game.

It will be published by Electronic Arts and has no official title at present.

The previous Bourne-based game, The Bourne Conspiracy, was courtesy of Sierra and High Moon Studios, released in June 2008.
