On The Brink Of E3

A host of E3 material has been released with the main event kicking off next week.

Bethesda and Splash Damage fans will be intrigued by BRINK – a new title heading out at the start of 2010.

Electronic Arts has put out more footage of Need for Speed: Shift and The Saboteur, plus unlockable content is on show in The Sims 3 and Battlefield 1943 videos.

The new shooter from Codemasters, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising gets an outing too, showcasing the intense in-game footage.

Homefront Kaos

Kaos Studios, the development team behind 2008’s Frontlines: Fuel of War, has revealed its next first person shooter title, Homefront.

The game is set in the United States, a country now occupied by North Korea, and will see players defending their home country in both single and multiplayer campaigns.

No firm release date has been given, but it will launch for the PC, XBOX 360 and PS3.

FUEL Powered

Asobo Studios and Codemasters have been presented with a Guinness World Records certificate that announces a record-breaking achievement for their racing title FUEL.

It officially states:

The largest playable area in a console game:
The largest playable environment in a console game is 5,560 square miles (14,400 km²), and is featured in FUEL (Codemasters, 2009).

A video has been released marking the achievement and offers more insight into the upcoming, record-breaking title.

Pre-E3 2009

E3 2009 is less than 2 weeks away.

All the major publishers will have their respective titles lined up to show off to the world.

As usual, a mix of titles that have already been announced, such as Splinter Cell: Conviction and Section 8 will be along side some brand new ones and surprises.

Blurred Vision

Details have surfaced on Bizarre Creations’ next racing title, Blur.

The development team behind the likes of PGR4 and The Club are bringing an innovative new community-based interface to the game. It will supply a unique story-driving social network that evolves dynamically as players compete in different races, make new friends, rivals, fans, as well as connect with other racers both in-game and in real life.

Blur is due on the PC, XBOX 360 and PS3 towards the end of the year.

Walkthrough Rapture Again

One of the big videos released this month has been the first sample of gameplay footage from Bioshock 2.

The Walkthrough Video contains over nine minutes of footage and is likely to be the first of many videos offering a different take on the new gameplay aspects.

The first person sequel is due for a Q4 release on PC, XBOX 360 and PS3.

Develop 100

Develop Magazine has released its annual Top 100 Game Studios list.

Blizzard Entertainment (creators of World of Warcraft) rules at the top, with the likes of Epic Games, Capcom and Infinity Ward in the Top 10.

3D Realms Nuked

Development Studio 3D Realms Entertainment has closed due to financial problems.

This leaves the future of the long-awaited Duke Nukem Forever up in the air.

Take 2 Interactive has retained the rights to the Duke Nukem series, confirming that its original deal with 3D Realms was for the publishing side only and did not include developer funding.

Ghostbusters Captured By Sony

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that the PlayStation editions of Ghostbusters will be released in June.

The highly anticipated game will launch in PAL/European territories in co-ordination with the 25th anniversary edition of the blockbuster movie.

Atari, who were due to be publishing all editions of the game, has said that the other editions including XBOX 360 and PC, will launch later in the year.

Visceral Games

Electronic Arts has renamed its long-running internal Redwood Shores studio to Visceral Games.

The studio is responsible for the recent third person shooter Dead Space and for the upcoming Dante’s Inferno.

Two unannounced projects are also in the pipeline.

World at War Map Pack 2

Activision and Treyarch have announced Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 2.

It will deploy in June for the XBOX 360 and PS3, supplying players with 3 new multiplayer maps and 1 new zombie map.

Map Pack 1 had storming success when it was released in March 2009.
