Dreamkiller Announced

Mindware, the development team behind Painkiller Overdose has announced it is working on a new first person shooter.

Dreamkiller is due at the end of the year on PC and XBOX 360.

It aims to take players “inside the dark and twisted nightmares of tortured souls possessed by unknown forces.”

Aliens RPG Cancelled

The development studio Obsidian Entertainment has announced it is no longer working on its Aliens RPG title, which was due to be published by Sega.

Instead it will be continuing work on Alpha Protocol for its end of year release, as well as the next Fallout title, Fallout: New Vegas, for 2010.

Sega still has its Aliens theme though, with Aliens vs Predator scheduled for early 2010.

First Max Payne 3

Raven Sharpening Its Claws

Established American development studio Raven Software will be behind two of this year’s most-talked about first person shooters.

 

The August-bound Wolfenstein will be the next edition in the popular series and is getting plenty of attention for its PC, XBOX 360 and PS3 release.

 

Towards the end of this year, Singularity will take players to the mysterious island known as Katorga-12, complete with time manipulation and scientific experiments.

 

Both games are being published by Activision, already with Modern Warfare 2 in its grasp, so expect more to come from both of these other first person shooters.

Aiming For Records

2008 saw Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV reach new promotional heights and surpass all-time entertainment records for day one and week one sales.

Now 2009 is shaping up for Modern Warfare 2, from Activision and Infinity Ward, to run it very close.

The 2009 edition in the ever-popular first person shooter series is aiming to beat competition not just from rival games, but TV and movie blockbusters too, making it the main entertainment source of the year.

Wild West

The shooter genre is heading to the Wild West.

This year has already seen Damnation, the ‘shooter gone vertical’ from Codemasters, based on elements of American history.

Ubisoft’s Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, the follow up to the 2006 original Call of Juarez, will take players to the heart of the Wild West with the McCall brothers.

Red Dead Redemption, from the makers of GTA IV, will also offer another ticket to the gun-firing, cowboy hat-wearing lands.

Millions On World At War

Call of Duty: World at War has sold over 11 million copies to date.

The announcement was made by Activision and developer Treyarch.

The first person shooter was released in November 2008 and has recently been boosted by the addition of two Map Packs.

Three And Two

Electronic Arts has revealed both Battlefield 3 and Mirror’s Edge 2.

Both titles are in development at Dice and are likely to be released mid to late 2010.

Battlefield 3 continues the recent Battlefield title influx, with Bad Company 2, Heroes and 1943 set for release this year.

Mirror’s Edge 2 will be the follow up to the 2008 original, but details on the sequel are yet to be fully revealed.

Map Pack 2 Awaits

The highly anticipated Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 2 Zombie Trailer has been released.

It showcases the Shi No Numa (Zombie Swamp) with typical action-packed shooter style.

The first Map Pack achieved a record number of downloads via XBOX Live and Playstation Network, with PC gamers grabbing it via the V1.40 patch.

FIFA 10 Revealed

The first FIFA 10 details have been revealed.

The next edition in the EA Sports football franchise is due for an October release on all platforms and contains features based on over 275 million online FIFA games played.

Across the pitch from keeper to striker, the gameplay will be more realistic and sophisticated, as well as feature new technology and mechanics, all with the FIFA community feedback in mind.

No Sign Of Hitman 5 - Yet

We know GameShadow has a big Hitman community and so we’re just giving you a quick update.

There was no Hitman 5 footage at E3 2009 and the game looks set to be released towards the end of 2010, potentially 2011.

Hitman 5 is still a working title, but all future news will appear on the current Hitman 5 Gamepedia page.

E3 2009 Update

More game revelations from E3 2009.

The later stages have seen footage from the likes of Dead Rising 2, Singularity and Brutal Legend.

The first looks at Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 and Homefront, both from THQ, plus Bethesda’s Rogue Warrior have also been revealed.

Ascaron Acquisition

Kalypso Media has announced an agreement for the acquisition of Ascaron Entertainment.

 

It will take over most of the brands, intangible assets and exploitation rights, including the likes of Darkstar One.

 

Ascaron announced in April 2009 that it had gone into administration.
